Victoria Playing Cards

Unread post by twiscold »

Hey guys, after almost two years in development I am happy to say that Victoria playing cards is finally ready to go. Here are some previews of the deck, I would love to get some feedbacks

A lot of people aren't going to like the fact that you're boxing in the courts. I think it could be bigger.
The back looks too "clip art" like compared to the front of the cards.

I agree. But to me your worst offence is having that beautiful faded background color on the face of the cards but plain white borders. Pretty PLEASE make the back borders the same faded style as the faces! Other than that, you've got yourself a customer in me.

For once im going against the crowd, i like the clean look on the back design, its nice and classy. What i would recommend you to do would be to lose the faded background on the faces and definitely make everything larger. Perhaps instead of stark white, a slight off-white colour can be used for both the back and face cards.

I would hardly consider myself a crowd  I'm more partial to the faded look but either way as long as the face borders match the back borders I'm okay with it. I love mismatching face and back colors like MagikFingerz loves thick borders...

The design seems interesting... but somehow that gold logo on the back seems to remind me of the Venexiana deck when I see it. (But obviously its not from that deck) Maybe the design cues from the same period.

Back color seems a bit too bright for the red. Maybe a darker red?

Agree with a lot of what was already said and the front doesn't match the back which is a pretty big deal. I would love to see more cards, the AoS is simply awesome, but that King just looks too much like Spock from Star Trek to me and is throwing me off! Maybe it's the hands, eyes and the buttons on the one side, but it's too distracting for me personally. That ace is really cool though and the back has potential. I like the dirty faded look, but it is quite played out in general so tread lightly there and experiment.

Thank you everyone for your insights. I'll defiantly match the back border with the face border, still looking to do a lighter fade on the face to go a cream book page look. As for the back design this is a mock deck I printed out a while ago with the old logo and this is probably the color scheme I am going for. I am also posting another idea I had for the court cards. It seems like everyone wants the suit to be bigger on the face if I understand correctly?

Your old protoype deck has a MUCH MUCH better back design colors than the first image you posted.

I'm a bit confused on the theme though. I assumed Victoria meant Victorian or at least a classic look, but then the latest court cards includes pink hair? These later ones somehow remind me more of steampunk or anime cartoon look. Seeing the rest of the courts your original back kind of fits better even though it doesn't appeal to me. Sadly this style isn't my thing so I'll just stop there and say good luck.

Not just the pips but the characters themselves- you have a lot of white space going on there.

But the new courts with the diamond box at the back are so much better than the original ones you posted
