Re: The Thunee Deck
SOME HISTORY....Following the emancipation of slaves in 1833, the owners of sugar cane plantations
searched for cheap docile and a low-waged work force.
Britain was forced to look elsewhere and turned attention to India.
The solution was in the form of a forced labour system which in many ways resembled
enslavement. Indians, under an “indentured” or contract scheme began to replace Africans
on plantations across the British Empire, including Natal, South Africa (now known as Kwazula-Natal).
The first Indians to arrive in South Africa were reported to have arrived aboard the
Truro from Madras (now known as Chennai) in 1860.
At the end of the 19th Century, Mahatma Ghandi argued with the colonial government
in Natal for Indian rights. Through Ghandi’s efforts and the intervention by the Indian Government,
the indenture scheme finally came to an end in 1917.
The Thunee deck pays homage to the Indentured Indian labourers in South Africa and
commemorates the origins of the game of Thunee which was invented by the indentured labourers.
The design, the colours and the script have been painstakingly researched. The
Thunee Deck embodies elements of the indentured labourer, elements of the
Tamil script and details that capture the essence and historical
significance of the game. The Thunee Deck is a full 52 card deck plus
jokers. This will appeal to magicians, cardist and collectors. But special attention has been devoted to the court cards
and the ball cards that make the deck uniquely Thunee.

The frame "overwrites" the figure (the pips in it are quite invisible). Have you tried to remove it and extend the back color on the whole card or extend the frame to a larger part of the cards or doing a lighter frame ?
Letters of indexes seems really big...
I love the indian theme

Re: The Thunee Deck
Yup, completely agree with lolo. Even if a frame doesn't really affect the art itself, it affects our perception of the art by "boxing it in". Also smaller indices (the stuff in the corners) makes it easier to spread the cards in the hand and see what's what, as well as making fans look MUCH better.

A beautiful deck without question, but $25 (to the U.S.) for one deck out of the thousands that will be printed is making me think more than twice on this purchase.

It is because one of the deck is signed. The 4 decks pledge gives you decks at about 8.7 pounds perlolo wrote:Yes, the price for one deck is really high...WillHart CthulhuWho1 wrote:A beautiful deck without question, but $25 (to the U.S.) for one deck out of the thousands that will be printed is making me think more than twice on this purchase.

Now you know how we "Internationals" feel every time we have to add +$10 for shipping. However, since this deck is being printed by USPCC in the US why are US backers charged for International shipping?SBurk49 wrote:Yeah... Nope. Too expensive.

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
Most likely he had no US partner for fulfillment . He is probably having the cards shipped from the US to his location and then he will ship them right back to pledgers in the US

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
Other serious project creators have solved the problem of appealing to their biggest market (the US) while running the project from overseas by using a US-based fulfillment center. Some have even offered to include the costs of shipping for both the US and their "home" market. This has led to great success for them.
As it is, in this case, while there's a lot to like about this project, there's not enough to like at this price.
On a separate note... I'm curious as to why this project is listed as being based in the Netherlands, but also tagged with Dubai, United Arab Emerates. What does Dubai have to do with South Africa? Or, India? I assume that the Netherlands is where the project creator is working from. But what does the UAE have to do with any of this?

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve (wap)
Totally agree that the price is too high. I like this deck, but there is still a fair amount of room for improvement imho. And at this price it's an easy pass.
I'm 99% certain this deck will not fund without major changes. We'll see if the creators are more receptive to the advice here if they decide to try again...

I agree, and pretty much no changes were made based on the suggestions we gave. Reflects poorly on designers when they ignore feedback like that.th4mo wrote:I like this deck, but there is still a fair amount of room for improvement imho.

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
badpete69,
I just checked, and the 4 deck deal is $68, or $17 per deck, or just a little over 10 Pounds per deck.
I'll wait for now...

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
I wondered about the multi-country story as well. According to the info on the page and the creator's profile it would seem that the creator grew up playing Thunee in South Africa because it was brought there by Indian laborers. He apprently lives in Dubai now. The artists are from the Netherlands.
I really like this deck and I grabbed one of the early birds but, I seriously doubt it will fund with those prices.

Actually we are both wrong. The 4 deck pledge is 35 pounds plus 15 pounds shipping which comes to 12.5 pounds per deck or about $21 a deck. I had forgotten shipping the first time

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
First of all, the price is not listed in pounds but in euros. Anyway, I hate that I have to spend an extra 5 euros for a second deck just because it has a signature I don't want. I starred it for now but in the case that all the slots for the 2 decks and 4 decks gets filled, I won't be missing this deck of cards.

That's a terribly expensive signature at 5euros. I wonder what they sign it with ? Dragons blood ?

It's a shame because I really liked the artwork for these. Hope they realise that they have something great to work on and maybe fix up the campaign itself too.

Re: Bicycle - Thunee Deck - KS Now LIve
They are shooting themselves in the foot with the shipping. Having recently come back from the Netherlands and shipped myself a package from there I know the costs are nowhere near as high as he is claiming, at least not to the UK. Shame, I like the deck but I refuse to be ripped off when there could have been a better solution in place.
The multiple country issue is also another warning sign.

this might answer a few questions re: the team.

We have acknowledged the positive and encouraging feedback during the design of the Thunee Deck. We have taken into account the observations and made adjustments to the Thunee deck accordingly. We have recognised that the shipping will be prohibitive and have accordingly amended our offering to include FREE SHIPPING in USA. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
