Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
Yeah at this point, it's a write-off for me. It will be 2 full years come June 8th email from him without a single sign of any progress. I'm shocked / not-shocked Alex just dumped the community like he has.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
one thing I haven't seen yet anyone considering and i know this is messed up to say but maybe Alex died. limbo. metaphor for his life around that time which gave him the idea for the project. nobody has heard a word from or about him, his websites are going offline, his projects unfulfilled, nobody can reach him on any platform. i think it is a very real possibility. hope i am wrong

I am sure many people consider many things - it does not mean we need to type them out. We all hope that whatever the problem it is not the worst problem and that he will come out of this safely.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
It’s a reasonable conclusion given the lack of evidence but I’ve searched and don’t believe he’s passed away. Otherwise we likely would have heard something and been able to find an obituary.rockets455 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:19 pm one thing I haven't seen yet anyone considering and i know this is messed up to say but maybe Alex died. limbo. metaphor for his life around that time which gave him the idea for the project. nobody has heard a word from or about him, his websites are going offline, his projects unfulfilled, nobody can reach him on any platform. i think it is a very real possibility. hope i am wrong

i also tried looking for obituaries and couldn't find any. can't believe there's not a single person who knows him personally in the community who can go check to see if he's still alive. in my mind he either died or he scammed and ghosted everyone and i can't imagine he'd do something like that after being a pillar of the community for so many yearsFenrir wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 6:06 pmIt’s a reasonable conclusion given the lack of evidence but I’ve searched and don’t believe he’s passed away. like? what could happen that a person doesn't have 5 min to update anyone on his whereabouts or the status of projects people paid for, for 2+ years.Timmargh wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:02 pmrockets455 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:26 pm [...] in my mind he either died or he scammed and ghosted everyone and i can't imagine he'd do something like that after being a pillar of the community for so many years

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
Incarceration? Coma? Hospitalization without external access?
I mean none of those are what I would wish on anyone but any of those would meet the criteria of unable to update.
There are other plausible scenarios that don't count as scamming that I can see as well which, whilst not preventing an update, would make such an update seem an impossible task depending on mental state and how one handles such scenarios.
The Vanda disappearance and subsequent reappearance is another example of someone who didn't wind up scamming but also found rationale about why they didn't make any updates. Their rationale wasn't one I personally agreed with, but at least I eventually got my decks.

If you have information on him or his family in China please PM me. I have removed a series of posts that were going to serve the purpose of having me lose my shit with commenters and served little purpose otherwise.

Alex Chin better have to come back ASAP, because at this rate, ARK Playing Cards is going to replace him for having excellent craftmanship on all their projects.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
Yes, I’ve always liked Alex’s playing cards, but after what happened with "Limbo" and "NPCCD," I lost quite a bit of money. That’s secondary, though—the main issue is that he hasn’t responded at all, and there’s no way to reach him. That really bothers me and makes me feel awful.
I know there are still many people who support him, and that’s fine. I just needed someone to vent to. This whole experience has been a huge blow to my passion for collecting playing cards.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
I am sorry that Jack has had to take a huge financial and reputational hit. I will just say that whatever has happened, Alex has been a great help to the playing card community for years and that still counts for something to me. I am not saying I am happy, just going to point out that Alex has done a whole lot of great things over the years for the community, not to mention some amazing decks.

Well then, he should go out on a high note, be the "great person" you say he is, and refund our money.Bradius wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 3:18 pm I am sorry that Jack has had to take a huge financial and reputational hit. Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
If Alex comes back and makes/sell cards, everyone should boycott his projects. What irks me the most is that people associate projects like Nazo Nazo with him. Alex did nothing - Jack did 100% of the design. Same thing for NPCCD 2020 - people associate that project with him but he didn’t design those decks - that was Kristina Carroll. I personally think his “Seasons” branded cards are so meh.
And this is coming from someone who isn’t even owed any cards so I feel for those of you that he robbed since he clearly is alive and physically well. Rant done.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
As has been pointed out, physically well does not imply that mental issues were not involved, and as we all saw him depressed for Limbo, such issues are expected.
Should he have fallen down and finally manage to get up I will be more than happy to welcome him back.

This is a mind-blowing assertion in my humble opinion. Alex is/was one of the most talented creatives in the playing card space for many years. If he returns I will gladly support his work again.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
Whilst I am glad that he is apparently okay, I think it would take some serious explaining and promises for me to readily support him again.
He is a talented designer and has managed to create innovation after innovation with the NPCCD decks. It was just unfortunate that I chose the 2022 edition to go all-in for the first time.

If Alex ever returns to the scene, we will all be so lucky. Alex is one of the most innovative thinkers in the card world and has pushed the boundaries while helping significantly build the hobby. Before his exit, he was a pillar of the community. He spearheaded Portfolio52 and took over United Cardists while managing NPCCD and creating/collaborating on some of the most incredible annual deck projects you will ever see. He is the gold standard in creative thinking and his art style (while not to your taste) is highly-regarded.Leachy19 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 7:59 am If this Alex dude ever tries to come back and make/sell cards, everyone should boycott his projects. Same thing for NPCCD 2020 - people associate that project with him but he didn’t design those decks - that was Kristina Carroll. This guy loved attaching himself to other artists that were miles more talented than he could ever dream to be. As someone who supported his projects over the years, I am deeply frustrated that we don't have Blind Tiger or any other NPCCD decks since his departure. I had a lot invested in Blind Tiger and it sounds like I was lucky to receive my Limbo deck as others did not. That being said, your comments come across as fairly ignorant as to the contribution Alex has made. Perhaps you weren't aware of his involvement and what we owe him. You can boycott anyone you wish, but to downplay his contribution just doesn't sit right with me.

Ive only seen the brief comment on the KS page. My presumption is that it was through interactions with GW working to get his inventory.

I very much agree with BaconWise's sentiment. I had a very high opinion of him, but at this point he has stolen my $600 I spent on Blind Tiger.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
I find it really strange that people find it acceptable to give him a hall pass when it’s been confirmed that he’s physically ok but can’t be bothered to send out a 5 min email update in what over 2 years when some people have hundreds (in some cases thousands of dollars) invested in his projects. Jack Penny is one of the nicest humans in the community and what he has had to deal with is total bs - it’s certainly unfair to Jack and has impacted his reputation and some of his subsequent KS projects because of his P52 association (albeit totally unfair), so that doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve had my own health issues over the past 2 years but I would still make an effort to give an update to the people that supported me.BaconWise wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 11:12 amIf Alex ever returns to the scene, we will all be so lucky. Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
Sorry if I offended anyone. Alex is obviously very talented but I am just a huge fan of Jack Penny and I know what he’s had to deal with over the past 2 years and it really makes me angry. Obviously Alex was an integral member of the card community for years and did alot of amazing things. I still don’t think he has earned the right to not be criticized for not engaging with people that have spent alot of $ on his decks. Anyway I apologize again - my emotions got the best of me. I do hope he is doing ok.

Re: Blind Tiger NPCCD 2022
I get the sympathy and patience some want to show towards absent creators. At this point though, it's been years for a few of them. In this highly connected world I am out of sympathy for their lack of communication. I don't think there are any valid excuses for this long of an absence.
