Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
This is another project where it seems they don’t fully grasp the importance of the right printer and card finish - 320gsm linen and intending to choose EU printer at end of project - I sent them a PM to try to bring them up to speed and give a short list if not a firm choice as soon as possible - if you like the project please reach out to them as well with your input on the issue…

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
Heard back from them: “ Don't worry, we have been considering Cartmundi, EPCC and Legends aside with some others (not all so well known but of the same quality, already tested by us before), and we may be printing with Cartamundi at the end. But we can not name them until we take the final decision. Things may change during the project (extra/special finish added to the tuck box, cards or whatever) so we will re-check everything at the end, aside with the availability and timing of each (things are going weird with paper stock these times).
Anyways: don't worry about quality. Quality is VERY important for us!!! We have plans for more decks in the future and the best way to success is a happy backer, always. So you can trust!”
Had another back and forth with them, as the unknowns made me nervous still - they assure me they know what they are doing, that it will be cartmundi quality or better, and that they will post their final decision before campaign end

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
This statement makes me a bit nervous. Are there better printers than Cartamundi in the EU? Nothing against EPCC or WJPC or any others, but Cartamundi is king.GandalfPC wrote:...that it will be cartmundi quality or better....
That being said, I really enjoy the artwork in this deck and they did a great job with the sculpted cases! The biggest turnoff for me is the font choice. I should say the lack of choice as they are using a template, basic font/pip combo. This really distracts from the beautiful custom artwork and I hope they would consider a thoughtful font selection to tie the project together.

I’m a cartmundi fan myself- fingers crossed
I’m ok with the font choice, I think it keeps them playable and puts the focus on the artwork… you can always fire off a request in the project comments and see how the masses feel though - perhaps they will consider a change

Very good point. Somehow, Lotrek slipped my mind. That would be the only alternative to Cartamundi

Sadly, Lotrek will not take on any gigs that he's not part of the design process anymore. However until we get to actually handle the Greek "Maestro III" finish , I will still say Cartamundi as no. 1 for now just in overall excellence. Lotrek still gets it for hotfoiling of course!

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
They just added another batch of 50 of the top tier “limited” edition items. Seeing it’s just a few days in I wonder how “limited” these things will be by the end of it all…
I don’t think I would mind as much if they dropped the price when they did things like this but seeing the premium I figure there is a decent chance I’ll be dropping my support down to a couple of decks before it’s all over
Perhaps I’m overreacting, but felt the need to vent here so I could avoid venting in the Kickstarter comments for the project…

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
Overall excellence doesn't look like a pantone colour fan.
Furthermore, I wanna see one priced tuck bock from Cartamundi. Oh wait, outsourced...
Of course Cartamundi is the no.1 for sheer volume but quality alone, not in my book. But I'll admit is an unfair comparison that was made in jest anyways. Nobody beats the Greek wizard - except for schedules or is he beating them
Yah, yah, the "limited" marketing. People will fall for this 'til Ragnarøkkr and beyond.

Eh, in the end we all know it's going to be Greece as no. 1 once Lotrek works out the finish!

Who ended up printing this deck? They're so cagey about it; I read through every update available to non-backers and I still have no idea. Thinking about backing their new one, but like last time, no info about the identity of the printer on the campaign page.

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
In the comments they're pulling the same " we'll decide the printer after the campaign ends" again on this new one. They're charging for shipping separately after the campaign as well. It's hitting some red flags for me.PiazzaDelivery wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 12:41 am Who ended up printing this deck? Trefl (Fabrika) is who they used for the Mythos deck, they finally said. I haven't seen anyone using them before. Are any of you familiar with them?

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
Yes, it is a legendary Polish playing cards factory, formerly known as the KZWP from Krakow.Adamthinks wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 4:29 am Trefl (Fabrika) is who they used for the Mythos deck, they finally said. I haven't seen anyone using them before. Are any of you familiar with them?
I ordered some samples from them more than a year ago, but wasn't really convinced about the quality. I still dream of having a deck produced with them, since it is such a legendary place — some of my most favorite decks were produced with KZWP from about 1950 to 1980.
I am very interested in hearing what you think of the quality of these cards.

Have a fairly packed day, and that deck is fairly packed away - will dig it up in the next 36 hours or so and report

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
So I checked my cabinet, and the drawers full of bricks - then realized I had a deck in the statue…. Of course I remembered having an open deck as well so I looked through the boxes in the closet to find it - last box had them - but it was another deck of this type that was opened, so back to the statue…
Cards feel nice, spring and dribble well, faro from top down just peachy, fan like…. Well, they do that other stuff.
Always a chance they will break in…
A minute or twos work shuffling and they seem to be fanning better - have work to do tonight but will see if I can wear these in tomorrow…

Re: Cthulhu Mythos By Cthulhu Project
Another few minutes of use and we are here:
Perhaps one more round will put it into shape
Also polished on a pair of jeans just a hair - managing a half decent faro from bottom - figure the rough edges could really use some attention before perfect faro from bottom is going to happen - rough edges may account for the fan being a work in progress as well, as the surfaces seem fine…
