Chess Cards KS Relaunch Live

A buddy of mine is going to be launching these on Kickstarter soon. Not sure what the print run is going to be but it should be fairly limited as he's using AdMagic for printing. At least it isn't another Steampunk/Cthulhu/Minimalist/Zombie deck for the millionth time, it's actually something different! I believe you can even use them to play chess similar to the Domino deck.

Coming soon to Kickstarter!

The concept is a nice thought, but it seems to be boringly executed. And I haven't even heard of "AdMagic", but I'm willing to bet their cards don't fan very well

But yes, it is different. I wonder though, if K=King, Q=Queen, J=Bishop, A=Rook, then where's the Knight? It could be on the joker, but that wouldn't really fit, and there'd be two less than the others. And why wouldn't J=Knight? Bishop could've been on the 10, since there are only 8 Pawns anyway. I know I don't have all the information here, but it doesn't seem very thought through...

I thought you'd ask for thinner borders :P

Ad Magic is the same company who manufactured the Caravan of See'ers deck and the popular game Cards Against Humanity, both on Kickstarter.

The execution is pretty dismal, really don't like the brown here, the entire deck just reeks amatuer. The back design has got all the room in the world to improve.

The question is are the cards both usable for playing cards and chess ? It's gonna take a pretty large board to play it but to me it has to be usable for chess if you want these to be chess cards

When something is designed to do two things, rarely does it do either well...on a quick glance I won't be touching these.

Link is live on kickstarter. Wish the cards that said "chess cards" also said joker instead, but that's just me.

I'm I the only one who sees that the red and black squares would represent a Checkerboard? I think black and white squares would've been better for Chess.

Hi all Chess Cards is my project on Kickstarter. Let's see if I can field everyone's questions. Ok for knights those are the jokers and yes there are 4 jokers in the deck no ad cards. Yes AdMagic has done several very successful Kickstarter projects in the past that is why I chose them for my project. The cards will be 300gsm cardstock with a linen finish. If it looks amatuerish it's because it is this is my first attempt at designing a deck of cards. I'm just a tourguide in Savannah Ga with a dream. As far as the red and black color scheme goes it had to be that way to go with the card suits, and yes this is a fully functional deck of playing cards that can be used to play chess. Thanks so much for your questions and input I'm around to answere any questions and welcome all input thanks y'all.

Why the funding goal so high?

I think it's because it's not only a deck project. A lot of reward levels provide a "board" with the deck.

There is a lack of "cardists" reward levels for example (2 or more decks and brick).

Tscharger, thanks for coming in. I like what you've done design-wise but the colors look flat as a pancake and am not sure whether this is the Jpegs you've posted or whether the deck actually lacks much contrast. Regardless, I think your deck would look better with a bit more pop.

Hi all! Well let's see more questions hmm color scheme i wanted the dull muted tones, my vision was an old game that was played by nobility and lost through the years but dug up and released to the common man.

What would the added shipping be for international decks would it be $10 for each extra?

LoLo nailed it on the head the boards are what shot the goal up substantially the cost of producing them and shipping them because of size was high. Their is also a tier which includes 100 poker chips which double as checkers lol

oh and addressed the issue of ordering more than one deck, extra decks can be ordered at $12.oo each. Honestly I didn't envision this as a multiple deck project at first planning I didn't even include single decks but Jackson Robinson told me it would be a good idea and who argues with him lol.

I agree, the black and red is kind of awkward with trying to market this as a Chess deck...

how would you market a deck of cards with red hearts and diamonds, black spades and clubs and a chessboard?

ill check with my fulfillment company about international shipping and multiple decks thanks for asking.

Please no double posting. And it looks like someone didnt do their homework, shipping and costs calculation should all be done before their project.

About the colours. You just have to ask yourself, what is the unique selling point of the product ? Is it the chess or is it the cards? What is more important, there have been numerous decks out there that dont follow the black and red colours.

I hope this doesn't come across as being too negative, but as a serious collector (although Junior Member here!), I'm gonna go out on a limb as predict these will NOT be funded. I think the designer needs to take a step back and rethink the design and the campaign. There just isn't enough to entice me (or others) to bite...even at the one deck minimum. I think the idea is good, but the execution hasn't been thought through completely.

For me, great KS campaign is...

1. Great concept (well thought out)
2. Great artwork/design (whether minimalistic or complex...i.e. Icon vs. Independence)
3. Compelling story/theme (something that collectors will relate to)
4. Intrigue and overall perception (marketed well, creates immediate excitement...i.e. Zenith, etc.)
5. Quality (printing)
6. Creative tiers
7. Fair valuation (does cost match the concept?)

(not necessarily in this order!)

I think it would be great to finalize a short list of qualifications (similar to above) and let the forum vote on each to give collectors an idea of a deck's possible popularity. Just a thought.

i just can`t get my head around the board size. If the cards are standard poker size then that board is huge. Where am i gonna put it. Why would i bother to get this deck and board out every time i wanna play chess, when there are great chess sets out there and easy to buy?

Yes the board is big enough to accommodate standard sized cards and at 22x30 it is quite large but it quad folds neatly into 11x15 size to be put in the custom game box.

Now relaunched on KS by Roma Kotiv with a $3000 goal.

Oddly enough he has a tier for $1 available for "special" people but doesn't specify who qualifies. It says to check the FAQ to see if you qualify but there is no FAQ, some kind of a joke?

I'm guessing "special" isn't me, since I won't be pledging for these. They're not for me.

It's there now, but yeah really weird to handle it that way. Interesting theme and if you can actually play chess with them I suppose that's different, but not sure what that monster board would look like or how you would make one to work with cards. Also, eligible:
Who are eligable for SPECIAL Tier?
You are eligable for SPECIAL tier and discounts if you have promo code.
If you have one, just contact us for details.

They should make a mini deck for the chess game.

If I am not wrong(@creator please correct me if I am ), the chess piece are not original artwork, just the chess piece, not the background and the idea!
Do you worry about the copyright :?

It doesn't seem like copyright is an issue since the websites that offer those images seem to do so for free.

Instead of generic chess pieces though, it would be awesome to see them illustrated as people (king, queen, bishop, knights, rooks, and even pawns).
