I will update this thread as more is available. For now, plan to be there! Room rate is great, location is down near the deep south, so expect great people, food and everything! Here's the page from CardCulture. So I've never attended a card convention before and I'm not a 52+J member, but Charlotte is pretty close to me... I'm just some random guy who likes cards Would it be worth the trip? Anyone with experience going as a first-timer?

Definitely worth the trip. Considering that I'll do it from Greece for the second time...

@Lotrek: Please don't scare the crap out of everyone like you did last year with the Blue Damask reveal. If you're doing a deck for the convention can we at least be aware that it exists and if it will be available to all after the convention

Well, for me it is only a 4 hour drive, more like 2 from my mom's near Columbia, but Lotrek is traveling almost 8800km (5400 miles?).

I cannot wait for this. This is always occurs on my daughter’s birthday, so I have yet to attend. But, this location is literally my back yard. I’ve been living here for the last 20 years. I am a chronic lurker here, but if anyone would like some advice or opinions on the area, I’d be happy to help.

I'll be there! This will be my 5th one, I've been going every year since 2015.

For those on the fence and any potential first timers, it's definitely worth it! You will learn a lot, meet a lot of great people, and buy/sell/trade your heart out.

Membership to the club is inexpensive. The convention itself is inexpensive (and this year it's actually cheaper than usual). You'll meet designers, producers, and folks from USPCC, Expert, and Cartamundi. You'll meet folks from the forum, and generally have a great time.

For me this was definitely a no-brainer year, as I live in NC and Charlotte is only about a 3-hour drive. I always enjoy the ones that are drivable, as they allow me to haul more stuff back and forth than if I were flying.

Stoked for October to get here!

Not really. The location for the following year's convention is discussed each October at the convention. Usually a few final candidate cities are announced/discussed, and then the location is announced within a few months.

Last year Charlotte was suggested along with a few other cities. I don't recall when they made the official announcement.

All I can say is you best not be late on that deck, because those folks will not be forgiving! (I wonder if I can order my decks in advance?)

Can someone explain how the tables work?

The auctions are just one way of selling some of your items. Each attendee is given a table so that they can display their “goods.” Some people simply showcase their rare and cool items. But, most folks use their table as an opportunity to sell some of their decks. The decks may have price tags, but most owners/dealers are open to negotiation.

So everyone brings their rare, interesting, and for sale decks and they all leave them sitting around on tables the whole time.....?

Yes, that is pretty much how it works.

They are times when the tables are open and when they are not the room is locked up. I didn't hear of any issues last year. If have you have truly rare items, you might not want to leave them laying on the table when you are not present.

The auctions are a bit different though. There is an auction during the event but I believe those items have already been sent to the 52+ Joker event coordinators. Then there is an auction during the banquet. I think anyone at the event can put items up for auction during the banquet.

I should also be getting there on Friday. I have about a 7.5 hr drive and plan on getting up early on Friday and getting there early afternoon. Hopefully, that won't be too late. I wish I could get there earlier but I have a Thursday evening commitment. I have never been and am really looking forward to it.
