I went to the store this morning and picked up a couple, line was around the block.
Very interesting vibe in the line, not all, but a majority of people were 12-24 year old boys/dudes, lots of really good cardists, and lots of people very excited about all of this.
I think it's roughly as most of you would suspect as to why some of these decks sell as well as they do.
No one thinks Fontaines or this deck or that deck is better for cardistry, they all just know they're in on something famous, and they treat this hobby the way people do celebrities. Whatever has the most attention or hype or notoriety ...they want a part of it.
Zach has done an incredible job building the hype, and it's more than just his videos. It's a game of social networking and fame building, and he's done it well.
It's entertaining to make fun of the decks and all, but "impressive design" is NOT what determines the value of art. Just an impression that was reinforced today that I wanted to impart to you all.

Shaitani - I concur as well. And, sometimes it is about the utility and marketing done. Case in point Air deck which was on Kickstarter recently. New creators, slick video demonstrating utility, promoted across sites like Mashable, produced and shipped possibly from China incl. free worldwide shipping and they raised very good amount.
Good to be mindful of what you said above.

Looks like some people didn't even bother getting home before putting them on the resale market.

For a while I wanted to have the whole set, when I got green I didn't even look at it, I just threw it in the box next to the others, and when Sleight came out I didn't feel the drive. The exclusivity of sale here definitely moves me, but trying to get out of collecting moves me more.
He knows exactly what he is doing, and his ego and arrogance lead me to believe every new release is another joke with his friends along the lines of 'Get this, next drop: One store only. I'll bet there will be a line around the block'.

Ha)) The reason why I will never buy Fontains even for $0.001 is the peni* signature on all signed decks. I have good imagination but ...

Who has other ideas?
