Good ole sprouts was was awesome enough to let one of his prototype decks go from the Joker 80T deck which I received today. I pledged for this on KickStarter and am glad to finally have one since that failed. Like most of you, I was most interested in this deck for the awesome jokers, but as a dabbler in game design and lover of alternative decks I find the added possibilities of the additional cards inspiring. While I will consider this part of my collection, it will be one that sees more play use than most others as a result.

As I was making lunch today I though I would first try them myself by playing some tableau style Patience/Solitaire style games, commonly just called solitaire and include Freecell, Klondike, etc. Of course I HAD to play with the Jokers too as the top card so I simply used them as the highest card meaning I had 16 card suits. The initial option would be to just layout the initial 7 starting piles and have a larger draw pile, but I thought it might be fun to instead add an 8th column. It worked just fine and added some new elements, but I suppose just using the 7 piles and having a larger draw pile would work as well. It just depends on difficulty level and if you play draw 1 or 3. I did have problems identifying red/black suits for this kind of game though since it uses 4 colors, but that just takes some practice to get used to.

Also, I know you guys love pictures of card fans in this thread, but my fans suck and these are early MPC cards so...

This also let me finally add this to P52 as a valid entry and included the following text. Hopefully @sprouts can correct any factual errors since I like to have P52 up to date and fully accurate.
Also known as the demo deck, this is an early prototype of a 2015 Kickstarter campaign which was cancelled, which was a relaunch of an earlier campaign which failed to fund (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ru ... -really-ki" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Produced by Russell Common of Texas Playing Cards (texasplayingcards.com) this deck had 101 decks printed by MPC for this prototype purpose on 310 GSM Casino stock. Some custom artwork, including the 4 jokers was done by artist Vivian Friedel (http://haggardhare.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It is a variation of a standard poker deck that creates a 64 card deck by adding a Joker for each suit, plus adds an additional pair of court cards for each suit called the Cavaliers and Bishops which fit between the 10 (aka Tower in this deck) and Queen, in that order (T, J, C, B, Q, K). In terms of game play, the Jack is worth 11, Cavalier 12, Bishop 13 and Queen/King move to 14/15. The deck also places the card rank index inside the suit. The Bishops in the deck were inspired from past popes of the Catholic church. The tuck itself is styled after a famous cigaratte box, complete with related warnings. While the back design is meant to be a visual illusion of sorts.

These additional cards mean it presents additional variations for existing games, opportunities to create entirely new games, or just adds new cards and elements to existing games without modifying the rules much other than introducing new cards with new ranks. In fact, one of the motiviations behind designing this deck was to include new options and rules for Texas Holdem. A few other games that work with modified rules include other Poker games, BlackJack, Spades, Solitaire or most other standard card games. Some commercial games that could be played with this deck by taking advantage of the extra cards include Canasta, Rook, Tichu and Wizard

Note - An earlier printing during early development was also created from MPC in a 7 deck order and printing which featured earlier design elements including a cat skull on AoS and much wider borders on face cards.

I'm sure you will recognize quite a few. :ugdance:

ecNate - I really enjoyed reading the entry on P52 You are spot on with the description. I'm glad I gave you the cards. Just know these were not meant for solitary. They were meant for Texas Hold'em. Pocket 22's now bet pocket AA's. Pocket Kings are the highest pair. The next deck I'm going to make it going to be meant for BlackJack. The Tower card will come in full force. I find it fascinating designers are dabbling in Tarot Cards and now they are being incorporated into playing cards today. I have wanted to do this for some time. They make it easier for the introduction.

I have learned and made a lot of mistakes with this deck. I'm glad I only made 101. I want to get rid of them. It was suppose to be a simple deck glorifying the 808 series Bicycle deck. The most obvious mistake is Vivian put the rank of the cards not in the right order and I didn't catch it on the uncut sheet proof. It's suppose to be 10, J, C, B, Q, K.

I'll be selling the rest at the 52PlusJoker convention on Oct 7-10 in Orlando, Fl for $20. They have not updated their website and it's hard to find the information. Sorry and Good luck. It seems at the conventions you double the value of your deck and haggle the rest. I'll tell you this now. If any of you show up at the convention and say, "Hi, Sprouts", I'll give you a deck for free until they are gone. Hopefully, in 50 years this might be unique collectible deck. Can you imagine getting a valuable deck for free just because you were at the 52PlusJoker convention in 2015.

I am starting a second deck. All the courts will look like the Jokers. The reversible sides will be different and tell a little story. They will have the Tarot cards incorporated into the alignments. I do know there is a different meaning in the Tarot if they are right side up or upside down. Yes, that means 9 suits with true neutral being the trump suit. The trump suit is coins. To me, it is means chance. I try not to ponder in the meaning of the Tarot, but just look at the symbols. In a game, you always need a wild card or Joker or in this case a trump suit.

That means a lot of court cards with a lot of options. Some are the The twelve fruits of the holy spirit and it's opposites and the 7 deadly sins and it's opposites which are the 7 cardinal virtues just to give you a hint of what I'm planning. It should make for a heavenly and wildly sinful deck. I'm also planing on having 5 different artists make the deck to give it a flavor but of course that takes money.

I see some very cool decks in there Eoghann. :ugking:

Who made the 2 Spanish decks on the far right? Are you going to post them in WWTM after the cartoon ones?

To be perfectly honest. I haven't the slightest clue! (edit: found some info)

I'll have to hit the books for those and do some research. They have absolutely no identifications or branding whatsoever, anywhere. The courts are pretty much identical between the two but the Gold suits are different. And yep, the majority of them will be displayed in WWTM int he following days. :)

Printed in Cincinnati within the walls of Bicycle's original factory, Vintage Aristocrat® playing cards are like nothing you've ever handled before and can never be printed again -- the printing press no longer exists. These cards were lost in the folds of history -- transmuted through the passage of time into something truly special to behold.

Just got a brick. Printed in Sept '05. But instead of D&D prices they were $3 ea, delivered. And they're like nothing I've ever handled before! (Except all those other Aristocrat decks I've handled....)

And if you're looking for Cincinnati (Nov 08) Aristocrats (Rascal's Casino), this guy's got a LOT even cheaper!

Just got these in today, and they look great. The unbranded tuck box looks especially nice, and the micro deck was a nice throw-in along with the card sized sticker.

I hope those No. 17 decks are in my mailbox within a hour. I got a shipping notification from Gambler's last week but I don't know which KS decks it can be. I don't think the Spirit decks are ready yet.

I'm interested in trading for a micro No. 17, if anyone is willing to part with theirs. You won't be able to tell from my DB what I can offer in trade, since I haven't gone through and made a proper trade list yet, but I have many decks to offer. Send me a PM if interested.

The borders didn't look too bad at least on the sides. I think the angle of the picture exaggerates it a bit. Here is the scan of that top card:

Alignment looks almost perfect (side to side), but the registration is a bit off (top to bottom). At the speed the sheets hit the press, it's tough to get it perfect. Actually if all the decks are that good side to side, their alignment is getting better. Expert / Legends PCC decks are almost always precise both ways.

Maybe just slightly off the alignment for that specific card.

Think about it this way - precise alignment means that the sheets are fed in straight, registration being off means that either the sheet hit the press a bit too early or late - or the stripping and punching out of the cards was just a bit off. You can tell if it is the former if all the cards are equally off top to bottom. If they vary, it's a problem during the punching (most likely) or stripping (less likely, but possible) if eight cards in a row are the same, then it moves slightly up or down.

Stripping is cutting the uncut sheets into seven strips of eight cards, then the blades in the puncher punch each card from those strips. It's all a very precise process since a leading and trailing edge have to be taken off the uncut sheets.

My free card caddy came in today. For anyone who missed the update: the run of caddies came out a little rough around the edges so he's giving one away for free to any backer who emails him. This does not go towards your original pledge. He's making a second batch which is supposed to be good. You still get what you paid for plus an extra caddy. Aside from needing to shave off some rough little bits which cause it to close too tight, it works well. Took me like 5 minutes to shave off the problem areas. :)
