I received this deck today. Is this a fake? This is supposed to be a Black Carpathia deck.

No its the real thing I have one myself.. Those were fairly rare when they came out and probably still are. Plus as you can see the big mis-spelling of the deck hehe

ok. I tried to search for this deck and only came up with the correctly spelled decks. Thanks for the clarification Pierre.
Edit: Found another thread here that explained it. Apparently, there is also a White Carpathia deck that has the correct spelling. Definitely a rare find. glad I picked it up from Angel_Magic.

Something that you just don't (and won't) see any more - box made of tortoiseshell with counters in brass, Sterling & mother-of-pearl - made in 1898.
The silver hallmarks confirm that Queen Victoria reigned over the United Kingdom and verify the date. Both decks are unplayed. .

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure what I'm seeing in those pictures. What's the patterned sliver at the top of the case? And what are the tins and pearleascent tabs on the sides of the card?

They two counters used to keep score.
One side has four small units, the other one odd-sized five peg (not the right word, they flip up without detaching to tally) and three that count ten.
1-2-3-4 5 (flip units down and 5 up) 6-7-8-9 10 (flip all down, flip one ten up), etc to 20, 30, 39 is the most it counts, so 40 is game over.

Got an awesome package from the Tomlinson's today. Two more stellar projects, sir. Congratulations. And I have to admit, while its just a brief synopsis, the first boarding pass I read did make me feel a little sad, Salide Barbara, an 18 year old girl who's body was never identified.
And here's what I'm really happy about, I understand it was one of the more requested people, Wallace Hartley, he leader of the band that played as she sank.
Also, really impressed with the Gettysburg cards. They riffle and cut rather well and after some break in faro and fan alright. Plenty good enough for my limited usage in card games. Just wish that the foreign cards didn't smell so chemical. USPCC is still the only deck I've bought that smells nice upon opening, has to be the inks used. But that aside, they're great cards. I was skeptical when RJ said he'd found a new company w/ comparable quality but I like it.

my latest additions
I have to say that i´m dissapointed with the scarlett Tally Ho deck. The borders are thick and the pips are barely visible in a fan.
However the Delirium deck is fun to the max! What a awesome deck of cards.Fully customized with a refreshing color tone and the cards handle great in compare to the first decks from Taiwan.

I'm glad you like the cards. Now that Gettysburg is out I'll let everyone know who the printer was in case any of you guys would like to try them out. I do admit the fresh from the factory smell of the cards isn't as nice as the USPCC smell but what can you do? Just don't eat them.
Overall I was really impressed with the printer, Shenzhen Wangjing Printing Co., Ltd. They still have a little ways to go to get as good as EPCC and LPCC but they are very willing to do what it takes to become better and they're very fast. I think they're a nice option because you can get all the bells and whistles for the tuck and still have a very low quantity (500 decks) which in turn allows for a lower KS goal.
Here's a video of them on YouTube: The video is real nice because it shows the whole process and how clean their factory is.
If anyone is interested in the contact info, just let me know and I'll give it to you.

Thanks for the link Robert. Very interesting. Glad I don't work in a factory like that. I'd lose a finger for sure!
Got my decks as well. A bit bummed because I though I added the larger Keepsake box but the mistake was mine. I'll have to look in the box again as the Keepsake box doesn't have it's personalized sticker/tag. I'm hoping it's in the box.

If you don't find the label for the box just send me a message and I'll send you one down. It's been crazy the last few weeks. I was hoping to get everything wrapped up today but it's looking like at least one more day of shipping torture.

Yes, it was a $5 add on and you chose a name to have printed on it.

A wonderful trade I completed recently with Jase (Jock1971).
The full size version of the 1982 Patience Europe can be seen in detail in Jase's excellent January 20th posting to the Spanish thread of the World Wide Time Machine.
The New Era Concave Sides deck was made c.1929 by the Standard Playing Card Company of Chicago (SPCC). SPCC was bought by USPCC in 1894 and operated independently until being merged by USPCC into the Consolidated-Dougherty Co. in 1930. The faces are standard, except for conforming to the concave shape.
The mini deck at top left is amazing. A pink backed version is in the Fournier collection and appears in the 1st volume of their catalogue as #168 of France. You can also find it on page 31 of the online Fournier (see the discussion thread of the Worlwide Time Machine). The date given is 1820! This one here has a plain green back. The faces are beautifully detailed given the size, and feature gold accents. I love this deck for it's beauty, delicacy, and age.
The deck to the right, with the beautifully printed and brilliantly coloured still life back, is a Mardon, Son & Hall deck - a branch of the Imperial Tobacco Company of Great Britian and Ireland. As you can see it arrived still sealed in the full tax wrapper used on decks of the time (around the 1930s?). I did open it - see below.
I will have to work hard to equal Jase's generosity in our next trade.
I've moved the above 3 decks to the top of my list for showing in the WWTM, though they must come after one other interesting posting, which will hopefully be up this weekend.
Below is the process of carefully opening the Mardon deck.

Me too.
Thank you for the great trade Jase, and for pointing out the French deck in the Fournier collection. I've become too dependent on the internet for info and overlooked the books on that one.

Got some Spotter Cards in today. Bit surprised to find they hadn't been used. They'll go nice with the original Secret Weapon deck I got.

Damn man, the original secret weapon deck is my Grail deck. Where'd you get it at? Or would you be interested in a trade perhaps? Have a lot to offer.

Got my package of Bicycle foil cards. While the tucks are bland, the cards themselves are terrific. Standard faces, but that foiled back just looks so nice. The way they handle felt no different from a regular Bicycle deck.
As usual, pardon my lack of card handling skillz.

I picked it up off of eBay for $10. Wasn't much of a description and only one pic of the front, so I was pretty happy it ended up being sealed. Probably just going to keep it with the others for right now.
