These days I have been giving as well as reemphasizing the lesson on patience to my son through examples of playing card collectors (you guys) and how they never open those beautiful tuck boxes to look at the beauties inside.

He doesn't get it yet but some day he will, hopefully.

Yes, if the designers are nice like Lotrek, to not seal his masterpieces with a deck seal and cellophane (I am ever so grateful that he does that!). Also , I've heard stories of the odd, weird freaks who open their decks for the cards and art appreciation, and not just the tuck boxes.

I know for I am one of them and I am not alone.

Worse, there are even those who confess that they even *gasp* PLAY regular games with these art piec... cards! :ugthink:

Seriously, I can't figure out how they can play for long periods. Must be tough and slow going to keep pausing to check if you're playing the right court card! My friends couldn't even handle the metallic inks of JR's Pearl players ed deck. (Granted we were playing on the patio at night with not very bright light)

These decks are not so expensive during the campaign that you can’t buy an extra pair or two to open and play with. Some of these should see the light of day and be enjoyed. I certainly plan to open at least one or two sets.

For something like $28-26 USD, for a custom-engraved 6-deck carat case is a no-brainer. I added 2 extras to my order to display one of my mixed brick decks. TwoPiece gave me the idea, and I think it was brilliant as you can see the tucks inside.
See? I have good ideas, sometimes! :D

I know that not everyone (and probably even most) can't afford it, and I've said it before, but I just tend to buy 2+ of every deck. I originally did this because if anything ever happened to the 1st deck (lost a card, spilled a drink, got too dirty), then I'd have backup(s) to open and be more careful with. This is also the case with Lotrek decks, but my friends and family tend to be very careful with the ones that are worth $50+. If something happens, well, I love the people and they're just playing cards. I buy them for everyone to enjoy. It wouldn't be as much fun as a collector/player if I didn't take the risk.

Down the line, I realized that I invested a lot into what have become very lucrative decks, and so I try to keep the seconds sealed for just-in-case scenarios (car blows up, bills pile up, emergency funds etc). Most of them are beautiful display pieces in collections.

In the case of this campaign, and the Gemini decks, and Ellusionist's Prohibition, I have (or will have) bought 4+ decks because of how much I love the display sets AND playing them. I've played with the Golden Oath deck, MetalLuxe Gold, etc. The modern foil beauties have received fantastic visceral reactions, but Gemini has BY FAR been the most well-received deck we've played with, not only because of how gorgeous the back design and colors are, but the pips and courts have been examined and wowed at by people that normally don't pay too much attention to the faces of cards I bring around.

TL;DR - I bought 4 of each of these decks for both displaying purposes AND because I plan on playing a LOT of card games with these.

After seeing and handling the Neo:Wave Ultra deck and getting a better understanding of Cartamundi's cold foil results, I am really getting excited to get a few of the Cartomancer decks I ordered. Those are going to look nice. :D

HI all!

today I received the cards from Cartamundi and the golden cold foil is great!
Next week I should receive the tuckboxes from Lotrek, he cannot take decent pictures while he works ahah

About the Cartomancer cards, I made a video now on youtube.

These are what custom playing cards are supposed to be. I really love Theory 11 tuck cases, but man if they would do it like this and develop their custom backs and include really amazing custom courts....they have the talent. This is how it is done. Both versions are just eye-poppingly great. Definitely glad I got a room in the Attic. But honestly, just get a pair of these decks and you will be in tall cotton.

To help others: The term has generalized to mean one is doing well or is successful. Tall cotton is the good stuff. 8-) I guess as opposed to puny cotton.

I posted about this to the "Great deals on ebay" thread already, but I thought that maybe I should post this here as well, as you most likely won't find the following that easily.

House of the Rising Spade Prototype deck for sale on ebay for £ 99.99. Shipping from the UK.
