Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
Love this deck, and the great tuck box interior. Reminds me a bit of Edward Gorey while still being it's own thing.
The shipping was actually OK (not great) to Canada for 4 decks - along with the %5 off for buying 3 or more it was way less per deck than recent KSs. First new decks I have bought in quite a while.

If you guys really want them, go buy them on their website, $8 is not that bad. Although I must say $10 to Canada is pretty good for Dan & Dave.

Are you serious? I'm with Paul, there is not much justification to hike the price of shipping that much. If McDonalds tells you they're going to charge you $6 for a $3 Big Mac if you order it through the drive through window, you're really going to say, "$6 is not that bad." and buy that ridiculously overpriced burger? I think not. A rip off is a rip off.vmagic wrote:If you guys really want them, go buy them on their website, $8 is not that bad.
Does anyone else find it hilarious that they put an asterisk next to their claim that this is a "limited" deck? "Available though October 31 or while supplies last." What a joke. they got at least 2500 decks, and probably more like at least 5000+. I have a feeling that next October, they're going to "find" a few dozen bricks in the corner of their attic to be sold again in 2014....

These look nice. Unique decks are always a nice add to the collection. I haven't had much interest in DandD decks since Fantastique. I would pick these up but recent financial expenditures will prevent me from doing so.

Buying 3 decks gets shipping down to three bucks per deck, which still sucks, just doesn't suck as bad. When you compare this "bones deck" to Calaveras there is no comparison. The latter slays the former at pert near the same pricing.

I would easily pay $6 for a Big Mac if they delivered it to me. Especially on a Saturday afternoon after a big Friday down at the pub.alric wrote:Are you serious? Price is all relative. Us Internationals are used to paying far more than $8 for shipping. I used my Buck and got a couple along with some black and Green Acorn backs and got them down to $9.15 shipped ea.

Just because you're used to paying that much for shipping dosen't mean you should pay that much. I think the Big Mac example was bad... It's more like if you could order the same burger at 2 different places for the same price but one places charged a $1 fee for it and the other place charged $3... Which one would you go to? Even if the burgers are a little different and the one with the $3 fee was slightly better- IT'S STILL A RIP OFF.Strag wrote:I would easily pay $6 for a Big Mac if they delivered it to me. Mike and every other seller on this forum have illustrated countless times how much it actually costs to ship domestically and there's NO excuse for D$D to charge as much as they do. Period.

I have to agree. $8 for shipping to the same country? $8 should be the international rate for shipping, but life isn't fair so it's $10-11 for shipping to England.alric wrote: Are you serious? I'm with Paul, there is not much justification to hike the price of shipping that much.

Sidenote: I only have one deck up for trade and I do live in the UK (in case anyone doesn't want to pay for int. shipping)JokerzGamez wrote:I have to agree. $8 for shipping to the same country? $8 should be the international rate for shipping, but life isn't fair so it's $10-11 for shipping to England.alric wrote: Are you serious? I just got these. I'm kind of disappointed. Besides the inside of the tuck box, they were pretty lazy with the customization. They fan and handle good, like every other USPCC deck.

Exactly what I was going to say. This is my first D&D deck and I probably won't be getting any more. Still, a nice tuck and they handle as you would expect.Ben Taylor wrote:I just got these. Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
I got my brick today as well and color me underwhelmed. The deck is customized, but its the laziest customization I've seen. As you can see from Ben's pictures, the front of the box is the same as the back! They have to do better than just repeating the same design on both the front and back. And worse, all the court cards are identical across suits. If you're going custom, make the kings, queens, and jacks different from each other. Instead, they're all the same with the exception of the king of hearts.
If I had known this beforehand, I would've just bought one deck for the collection instead of a brick.
The only redeeming features are the really thin borders on the back design and the printing on the inside of the tuck box, which is actually very cool. Plus, the tuck box is UV light reactive as well. I don't know why I'm still surprised that D&D and Fulton consistently disappoint by overpromising and underdelivering...

I was totally conned into thinking this was a fully custom deck. Repeated courts do not qualify as 100% custom in my book. Last D&D deck I will buy from them. I'm tempted to return the unopened deck I still have and ask for my money back.
Keep it Sizzlin'!
Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
I am disappointed as well. I was expecting the courts to be different. Honestly using the same artwork for each suit is worse than using the uspcc standard courts in my opinion. I was willing to overlook the shipping charge which was I think $8 or $9 and arrived in a flat rate envelope. The one that's about $5.
I don't see myself purchasing from them again for a while.

Sounds like this is a dead thread. It went from "First Edition, First Printing" to "First Edition, Last Printing"

Underwhelmed by the deck as well, namely the repetitive queens & jacks. Got 3 decks, will probably give one away to the loser of this month's poker tournament.

Very relieved that I didn't jump in for a brick, because I almost did. Might just pick up one or two from my local retailer.

Damn, hate to sound repetitive but... Got mine in today and am underwhelemed as well! Here's a successful company that can shoot for the stars and raise the bar if they wish- but they don't. The duplication in the courts is a royal cop out. Glad I bought light.
Anxiously awaiting Calaveras.

Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
Received my decks today, too. I posted a review to the D&D site (giving it three out of five "spades"); we'll see if they let it through.
What I find interesting is that they went the extra mile in several respects on this deck: the interior design, which nobody would have expected; the novel take on the suicide King. But then they don't seal the deal. The tuck box is embossed, but the design on front and back is repeated. The courts are custom, but are repeated with each suit (except for that wacky King of Hearts.) There's a custom Joker... but it's repeated with no special reveal or added detail; there's two ad cards, but no gaffe cards. The backs are fanciful, but the number cards are Bicycle standard issue.
It's strange. I like the deck... it's okay... but I could have liked it *so much more*. The page for this deck on the D&D site is like the all-too-common movie trailer that shows you a taste of all the good parts, and it turns out that's really all there is in the final product. Alas.

I think you nailed it perfectly Rousselle. So much potential, to quote Maxwell Smart, "Missed it by that much."

Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
Wow you guys are tough! I too received my decks, haven't opened one yet but I liked that the tuck box had the same design on both sides...
1. I don't own any other decks with the same design on both sides
2. When displayed, I can just show the front of the box and not have to worry about showing the back hahaha
3. My friends (non-collectors) noticed that right away too and thought it was pretty cool.
The court cards being the same is also cool in my opinion. More so for playing poker than doing magic. Can you imagine playing poker and holding all 4 queens/jacks in one hand!!!
Maybe the design on some of it was a little lazy but if it is different than any other deck doesn't that count for something?
My only complaint was the price and the shipping, but we already vented about that.

Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
But how are you going to have "1-eyed jacks wild" when all four jacks are one eyed?
Also, the QoS usually carries a scepter in addition to the flower the other 3 Queens hold. Not so in this deck since they're all the same. I think they were just lazy with the deck. If they had just finished off all the little things like that it'd be a really awesome deck. But now it's just an example of what not to do.
And how many decks have the joker card being exactly the same? Even standard Bicycle decks have a slight difference, one being coloured the other not or a guarantee card. All just seems lazy to me.

Thanks for posting that picture. Normally I am anti-scull but with the Halloween theme is fitting. I like the design on this and the backs are whimsical. I am not able to pick these up at the moment as money has been leaving my account at Biblical proportions. I will pick them up eventually or make a trade.

Re: New Fulton's "Halloween" deck from D&D - coming soon
The odd thing here for me is by going the extra step and making the suicide king I feel they made the deck worse.
It basically boils down to (for me) If you are going to have repeating suits. Have repeating suits.
If you are going to do all custom go ahead and do all custom.
Right now it looks like you lost the King of Hearts to this deck and replaced it with one from another deck
