Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Nice! 2018 has been a year where I saw many designers taking their game to the next level, much to the despair of my poor bank account.
I was just thinking last week that it'll be incredible for one of the established designers to do a Transformation deck. So pleased to see you take up this challenge. Love that you're doing this with the Indian touch!
Will this be ready to launch in 2019?

Not Indian but an Australian touch for sure

And, it is planned for early 2019.

I do not yet have a transformation deck in my young collection, but I’m thinking this will be a fantastic deck to start with!

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Grab Ben Jone's PIpmen series this Black Friday as they are still very affordable. Definitely stands out in one's collection. Emmanuel Jose's decks will be a lot more expensive and harder to find though. They can tide you over and whet your appetite for Sunish's deck when it's released.Wizard_of_Os wrote:I do not yet have a transformation deck in my young collection, but I’m thinking this will be a fantastic deck to start with!

Awesome! I saw the joker and meh, but the other images are much more classical transformation so this will be one of the few decks I pickup within the next year. Glad to see you making a go of it!guru wrote:Not Indian but an Australian touch for sure![]()

This is a risky endeavor given not everyone appreciates a classic transformation deck and moreover, a number of people don't even know about such decks. I was chatting with Kevin Yu the other day, and he asked if the "transformation deck" is the name of this deck.
People will even have reservations about it being not a playable deck so any such support is appreciated.

I happen to be one of those people unfamiliar with what a transformation deck is. Mind enlightening me?guru wrote:Thanks ecNate. Glad you liked it.ecNate wrote:Awesome! Good piece from USPCC too here https://www.bicyclecards.com/article/wi ... -poker-11/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.A transformation deck is a unique deck of playing cards where the pips have been incorporated into a larger artistic image. As an example, the five pips on a Five of Hearts might be transformed into five faces that are part of a larger image picturing five people. Typically these pips use their traditional location on the card and their traditional red/black colours. Decks where the pips aren't in the expected position/colours are sometimes referred to as semi-transformation decks. - EndersGame

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Surprised Sunish didn't add the link to the Ender's excellent summary of transformation decks that was posted on PCD. It also gives the links to PCD's current stock of Modern Era Transformation decks that are still available for purchase at retail price

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Thanks for sharing Eric. I was looking to give @CupcakeBaron a more concise description of a transformation deck. Ender's one is excellent and exhaustive. I don't think anyone else has done such a great piece on transformation decks than Ender's.

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Quick question -
Earlier the thought process was not to have suit rank/pips but then the deck becomes unplayable & you might not be able to enjoy these cards in a game.
Added it to see how it looks but still in two minds, to include or not.
Thoughts?

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Does not detract from the overall presentation and makes it playable. I say "why not?"

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Strongly disagree. Make them indexless. These are not meant for gameplay, this is a transformation deck. Doesn't look right with an index.

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Is there not a way to incorporate the rank/numbers into the card itself? For instance, make a J or Q or K an element of the relevant court clothing? That may be a nice compromise.

The characters will make it easy to determine which is a jack or a king. I am also thinking about what you said above.

Yup....and so, after long deliberation, I have decided to have a pen and ink version to be indexless while the water color version with indexes.
I am keeping the theme or inspiration hidden as still working on certain legalities. Once, it is sorted out, I will share more details and then may be, my decisions will make more sense.
In the end, there are two versions of this deck, one in old style pen and ink, second is this water color version and a third offering will be a book.

Re: GPCC Transformation deck
Thinking about the printer now....
WJPC - I can get a great tuck done by them and shipping through SFC means it is tried and tested, economical rates, comes with full tracking & each deck wrapped in thick bubble wrap. Even shipping uncuts or posters in cylindrical tubes are cheaper than other shippers. Card stock used will be the same as Bharata v2.
USPCC - Can't say more. Bee or Premium stock is great but they can't upgrade tuckbox stock, and adding bling on tuck means skyrocket costs. Shipping through GW means US shipping is cheaper but for non-US backers, it will be higher. Uncuts shipping cost from US to other countries will be too high. If I go with other companies printing tuckboxes then complexity and coordination do increase.
Cartamundi - Never tried but they can do great tucks with foil at a reasonable price. The card stock is great too. Still, I don't like their tucks with cold foil. If I go with them, I will ask for hot foil for sure. Shipping through GW means US shipping is cheaper but for non-US backers, it will be higher. Coordination and complexity increase because decks will be transported from Europe to US.
Legends - Good card stock options. Can do great things on tucks. 6 or 6+ months lead time. Shipping through GW means US shipping is cheaper but for non-US backers, it will be higher. Coordination and complexity increase because decks will be transported from Taiwan to US.
