Thanks Jackson.I really like the look of these new courts and the move from the original boxy shapes to the more round ones.

These are insanely good.
My only concern would be with the gold lines, will there be enough contrast when printed to make the details pop?

Those are great concerns. The properties of the foiling are such that when they are not reflecting the light directly into the viewer's eyes it reflects the dark value of the surroundings instead of light. Here is a short vid of a test card and it shows how well the detail shows up in the back design.ICantShuffle wrote:These are insanely good.

Oh, wow, yeah that does work really well. It looks like you were able to retain the fine details even using the foil.
I'm glad that manufacturing has gotten to a point where you don't have to make sacrifices like resolution of detail in design to accommodate other aesthetic choices like exotic inks or foils.

I'm playing around with background foil patterns for the index cards. I'm thinking each suite will have it's own unique pattern behind the pips.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
If you are going to use foil on the front of the cards, the patterns will look great assuming they don't bleed onto the front and effectively mark the deck. I think the cold foil process can make the foil in multiple colors and even gradient colors. Even if you want to go with just gold, you could possibly (I think) change the gold from lighter to darker if you wanted or add color. However you do it, these are looking amazing.

I have to say that the more things I learn about this deck, the more I like it. Jackson - you may be onto something great here. It is also painful to see all these spoilers and then to remember that it is not going to be formally announced until some time in November.

Whay about just a badge in the middle. I quite like the minialist look of the courts not having borders. It's a bit more subtle, and this feels like its going against it.JacksonRobinson wrote:I'm playing around with background foil patterns for the index cards. Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
Jackson,
I'm trying to figure out a good way to put this: Your queen is A+, great artwork, but....
It's giving me flash backs to Episode 1.
In fact, I was thinking to myself "hmm, he must've watched the prequel trilogy recently," as I think sometimes we can be subconsciously influenced by things we see when we do our own work.
I'm not saying change it, but that association may occur frequently.

What do you mean by “giving you flashbacks to episode one”?

Okay. The lips kinda, but it was a Japanese style, and this only does the small bit in the bottom lip. Now that you point that out, it is a bit odd. The rest of the face seems way stockier than Princess Amidala.

I am with Brad on this one - can't quite see the resemblance. In fact, to me she actually looks like a he in woman's clothes (like what you see in the Kabuki theatre).Bradius wrote:Okay. The hair crest and the jewelery, too. The eyebrows and facial structure look more western, though, in Jackson's interpretation (more like Natalie Portman) despite the fact that, yes, in the films Amidala's costuming was influenced by Asian (borrowing elements from Japanese, Thai and Indian) royalty.I am with Brad on this one - can't quite see the resemblance. Like I said, it's not an exact quotation, but it does seem like it might be a subconscious influence. And, overall, it looks really cool, that's why I don't think it should/needs to be changed.
For the record, I'm not some crazy Star Wars fanatic. It just jumped out at me when I saw the illustration as a possible influence.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
Nah, I can totally see what you mean. The only thing that think is doing it is that little rectangle of lip paint (just like from Star Wars) I honestly worried the same thing cuz I had the same thought. It's an easy fix, I'll probably just take off the lip square. I did, however, want this queen NOT to feel western with her face paint and costume.ICantShuffle wrote:Jackson,

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
A slight change in the width of the neck, to make it slightly narrower, would present the visual appearance of rounding/broadening the face and making the queen look slightly less Western. The decorations around the eyes and down the nose do look like henna which is common to the middle-east and western-central Asia.
It's not bad at all, like I said, it might be the lower lip thing, but all of the elements together reminded me of that. Then again, that might just be my dominant Introverted Sensing function playing tricks.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
I'm thinking about possibly delaying this Kickstarter until February. I am really enjoying how it is turning out and I would really like flush it out completely before launching the Kickstarter.
I am also finding everyone's feedback useful.

I'm glad you're considering this. Too many people seem to rush KS's nowadays. Jackson, love the deck so far and will be there at launch. Just wanted to point out a typo in the Ace of Spades. It says "Lead a Quite Life" ....I think you mean Quiet.
