Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquires Wounded Corner
Thanks Steve for all that you have done and may still do for the community! Yay Henry & Brenda! I can't imagine anyone better for all that inventory to be transitioned to and managed.
I had inquired about Henry fulfilling OathPCC orders in the future. This is an unintended way of getting what I want. (Steve has fulfilled OathPCC orders in the past).

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquires Wounded Corner
rip all the deals Ive gotten on limited TWI decks from wounded corner? (I have nothing against socal just never found anything I wanted there)
wonder if this is part of why wounded corner went into "inventory time" on Wednesday and stopped taking orders...whcih seems like about the last time of year you would want to do that.
But isnt Socal a part time job?

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquires Wounded Corner
Hi there! I do have a "normal" job, but it's safe to say SoCal Playing Cards is nothing short of second full time job. From the moment I log off from my day job M-F, it's all SoCal and essentially all SoCal all Saturday/Sunday. It doesn't hurt that I mainly work from home. And, I also can rely on my wife and kids to help with DS1ing and packing orders when things get busy. Funny thing is my manager is concerned that I may leave to solely work SoCal full time!Evilgamer wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 9:03 am rip all the deals Ive gotten on limited TWI decks from wounded corner? Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquires Wounded Corner
WoundedCorner was a second job for Steve, the same as Socal is a second job for Henry & family.
Looks like he is delving more into his photography endeavors! Haven't asked him directly though. @sjrosenfield_photographyHarvonsgard wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 1:38 pm Quite some news. Any statement from Steve why he stops?

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquisitions
Are we witnessing the beginnings of a retail playing cards monopoly?

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquisitions
I'd call it tiding up the market instead of monopoly. It's about time. Everyone opened up a webshop for decks a couple of years ago, now we see the reverse direction. Best of them all (namewise) was bummbummbuttcheeks.com. Owner was a nice dude but a horrible business man, lel.
I'd wish Henry would have bought that one as well and used that name moving forward.

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquisitions
SoCal is great for cards while so many others like Penguin seem to have prioritized Magic Tricks (= I imagine to be little inventory and great margins). I have next to zero interest in magic but emails about trick offers is all I get from Penguin nowadays. I still order from them as their zero International shipping (along with Vanishing) is just about unbeatable but I would be spending 10% of what I used to. I pretty much need to order in sevens from SoCal (for $23us shipping) to be cost effective so I need to step up LOL. I love their auctions even if I was the underbidder for the Ravn set (could have/should have gone more but one needs to be disciplined at auctions)
KoD - my initials, no wonder I grew up a lover of playing cards

Re: SoCal Playing Cards Acquisitions
To their defense, Penguin and Vanishing have always been magic companies first. AoP, Ellusionist and TXI have shifted their focus on decks.
