I saw on P52 that there are catalog numbers(?) -- e.g. Lettische Patience (KG34) -- is there a list of these somewhere? Who made the index?

That's deck #34! Here's all of them: https://www.wopc.co.uk/uk/karl-gerich/

I love living vicariously through Gandalf and acetofive for these.

I believe Gandalf is putting them into P52 as he acquires them :)

Karl numbered many, but not all of his packs and sheets. The list/index may have its origins with Daphne and Mike Tregear, early friends of Karl's, who made efforts to catalog what they knew about Karl and his body of work. Much of WOPC's information is derived from the Tregears. I have a copy of the paper they wrote. There's also an obituary, and at least one article about him in one of the English/European club newsletters, written before he passed. You can also glean some of his history by finding old auction listings - often written by people who knew him. I found out about Karl through WOPC and a collector friend who lives near me (in the 10,000+ decks range). He was friends with Karl - one day he asks if I'd like to see something interesting and he brings out a box full of Karl Gerich decks. My eyes must have popped out of my head. Many of them (if not all of them) he purchased from Karl while visiting the UK. He helped me get in touch with the Tregears and he's where I got my first Gerich decks.

My Four Corners deck doesn't include the four extra scenic aces. I asked the friend I bought them from about the aces and he didn't know anything about them (he got the deck directly from Karl - so it may be likely some decks just didn't have them). These scans are my first opportunity to see these close up. Thanks Gandalf!

As for Bradius mention of the bottomless pit that you can step into with coins, and no where near the league that he was in, but I did manage to convince myself that these would make nice additions to a routine or two and talked myself into a pair of silver art coins a few years back - I am glad I did - but just as glad I could pull away before I had to eat beans.

I did get these at a steal when they were new enough - hedgehog best dang coin there is on the planet, or as the rest of the world sees it, award winning - hard to pass on…

Some of the animals can still be had at a good price I bet:

IMG_6222.jpeg

For the fossil series, several came out before I took notice and were pricey, some had not yet come out - happy with the one I have but two or three others just as nice

GandalfPC wrote: Mon Jul 24, 2023 1:33 pm Don’t really consider this part of the card collection and it lives in the magic book pile, but as these types of cards never get the slightest bit of respect (and deservedly so, as they come in a long accordion strip with perforations to tear them apart…)

But perhaps they deserve their 5 seconds of fame - as this Mark Wilson book is a tiny gem, and can still be had for under 5 bucks on Amazon ;)

I’ve had it forever - might have picked it back up along the way out of nostalgia. Tricks are child’s level obviously.

With magic on the mind, a small collection of double backs and blank faces that I have plucked from various decks… I’m sure I have a ton more in sealed packs but I don’t even have an off hand inkling as to which decks contain them…

I do make my own now (at least double backers and other gaffs - can’t really have enough blank facers though I don’t use them much at all), so I’m not so much on the hunt - but I do pluck em out when I come across them

I also take out double-backers or back/blank cards and keep them in a drawer :ugthink: If there's any original art or even a back design variant, it stays in the deck

That’s it indeed - they do have a trick in there to go with it, but I thought it would make a nice mix in to any blank face trick - and always nice to have a gaff card that was not had before - a hard to make one at that, and with a bike back…

One of the guys I used to perform with is Asian. We carried yellow, black, and red/white/blue backs for "edgier" shows were we shared racial jokes. The audience always seemed to love it.

Great find with the old Ultraman deck. I just just in Japan 2 weeks ago and picked up three of the Bicycle Ultraman decks. Haven't opened one yet.

Had no idea they had a reproduction of the Strauss deck - and after happening upon it I set about looking for a decent price on it - a few were about, but none were at better price than from our own beloved Bacon

The other deck was from amazon, and the pair together I find a quite satisfying arrival - the green close up pad they are on arrived from penguin - its the TCC leather one, hard back - cheap as sin and so good that one imagines a deal with the devil was made somewhere along the way…

Rearranging things a bit, moving things from cabinet to drawer in hopes of getting on top of the overflow - this crossed my palms during the shuffling and I didn’t remember if I had given it its due yet…

I've always wanted a plate but never seem to find one I'd really like considering their cost.

Having said that, I would sell my soul for a Room 17 tuck box plate.

I wish Lorenzo kept the auction prices visible like he used to. It's a great way to see what the approximate item values are for these rarities.

The Room17 printing plate was my profile picture on IG for a really long time before I put my current one up, and it's beautiful.
