Is this the right place?

Unread post by greenery »

I just registered, and will do some exploring but it may be most efficient just to tell all y'all what I'm working on. If there's a corner here for people with similar interests please point me in the right direction.

At this point in my life (I'm a retired university professor) I am spending more time experimenting with art techniques that interest me. I have always drawn and painted, and I have a lot of mixed media work hanging around. But something I have always wanted to do, and started six months ago, was to design a deck of cards with a specific theme. This deck is meant for family-play, adults and children. It's basically a reversal of Old Maid, with all the characters as dogs.

Sounds awful. But bear with me for a minute. Pupper Pick Up is a composed of 25 duplicate cards, 1 stand alone card and two instruction cards. It's played like Old Maid, but the single card is the 'best friend' card, and the player who ends up with it is the winner.
I use https://youtu.be/ah6fmNEtXFI doggo lingo for the text.

The artwork is my own, a combination of sketches, portraits, watercolor or acrylic paint which I then scan into Photoshop where I finish using digital art techniques. A selection of final draft cards can be seen https://saradonati.com/pupper-pick-up/ here.

Each dog card has a name. A wide variety of breeds, mixed breeds and mutts are represented, as are a few dogs with disabilities or looking for adoption. I haven't decided yet whether to put short, simple facts about dogs on the cards.

I used a tarot card template from one of the big online companies for sizing and margins, and a dpi of 400. Of course the online images are far smaller.

At this point I have enough cards for two decks, and I have to decide if I want to have proofs for one or both of them printed. That means decisions on picking a printer -- general or specialist -- paper weights, etc etc. I would love feedback on design questions, as well as advice on these more concrete issues.

Welcome aboard to the forum.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.
