Dets for those of us who are technically inclined:
It turns out that HostGator "fixed" our htaccess file Tuesday morning shortly before noon. Unfortunately the fix made the system look for php 5.5 and we use 5.4, so it was in an endless loop, pegging the CPU.

.htaccess controls how the system loads among other things. I had told them there was nothing we had changed in ages, actually about 3 years since the code changed.

Hmmmm we sure it is php 5.5? That hit EOL in 2018 and is no longer supported - any version of 5.x. They are up to v7.4 now.

Might need to look at the email notification system. I noticed I have received some PMs, but I never received an email alert letting me know.

Yea I checked my settings and they were correct so I sent myself a PM and got no email. So I sent a PM to a bud asking him to reply back and now I am getting emails. No clue.

What I forgot to say is that I had to restore the backup and likely lost a few messages if not a full day (or more).

It went down around noon Tuesday and I used the CodeGuard console to restore to about the same time on Monday. It could easily mess up the pointers for the "new message in followed topic" notifications.

I guess this will need to be turned on or back on manually for topics that you follow.
