[Buyer's Guide] Anyone Worldwide (A1)

Unread post by Harvonsgard »

Anyone Worldwide is a cardistry brand, that was founded by the former dealersgrip members Tobias Levin and Nikolaj Pedersen, when they joined forces with Noel Heath in 2017. Since they are three of the world's best and most influencial cardists, they had a huge following since day one. A1 decks are know for minimalist aesthetics - which created hype, but hate aswell.

Until today, after I received three of these decks, I almost believed that the "Headlong into Eternity - v1 Gallery edition" were an April fools joke...

Do you know how many of them were printed and if they really differ from the normal version regarding the border of the back design?

While I don't have one of these, apparently they exist.

[Buyer's Guide] Anyone Worldwide (A1WW) - 2021 Update

Unread post by laitostarr777 »

About Anyone Worldwide (A1WW)
Noel Heath is an excellent cardist in the community. With the help of two cardists from Dealersgrip: Tobias Levin and Nikolaj Pedersen, the three of them created Anyone Worldwide. A1WW is known for their very simple design featuring repeating patterns or texts or country flags. After years of building the brand together, Noel Heath have to quit the brand so he established his own brand of cardistry deck. Later, Nikolaj followed suit to quit the brand as well. So, as of now, the brand is run by Tobias Levin and Brendan Conner.

Collaborations
A1 collaborated with a few of contemporary artists. Their biggest one is with Dan and Dave to reimagined Smoke and Mirror.
  • AS IS NYC: A beer bar in NYC specializes in crafted beer and wine, established in 2016
  • B. Thom Stevenson: American contemporary artist whose artworks almost looked like photocopy prints
  • Face Oka: Japanese artist whose works have the iconic smiley face
  • Dan and Dave: Buck twins cardists (and founder of Art of Play) who produced their signature decks called Smoke and Mirrors. A1WW reimagined that brand within their collab
  • Tim Lahan: Contemporary artist and illustrator currently living and working in San Francisco, California. He worked with Apple, Nike, Kenzo, GAP. His fence studies involving various artworks showing different shapes of metal fences and his latest work is the icons on variety of sizes with the creepy smile.
  • Benjamin Edgar: "An Object Company" - a designer based in Chicago, Illinois. His project ventures to blend a mix of irreverence, intense attention to detail, and a fascination with exploring the application of materials. Gott balances the useful and useless while allowing himself to continue to learn, develop, and play.
  • Sabukaru: Sabukaru is an online-based magazine that covers about anime, manga, culture, videogames, art and design from around the world. Based in Tokyo, yet the contents are global. It is founded by editor-in-chief Adrian Bianco, who comes from Germany. Their logo is a stylized letter S in form of a lightning bolt. The collaboration is made in celebration of it’s recent article talking about Anyone and cardistry - the illustrations are made by Johnny Terror.
Total Decks: 93

Why It's Hated?
  • Geometric design all over, repeated with a lot of recolors. Some of the design are really that simple, that even rookie designers can do it very easily. It is so easy that anyone can just do it on a very cheap painting software (like Microsoft's Paint)
  • There were claims that some of the releases are very sneaky, that many people were caught offguard, and totally pissed that they missed the decks. This was during the Runaway World releases.
  • They were opening preordered on three decks at the end of 2020, and they claimed to have promised for the decks to be fulfilled by March 2021, and the decks haven't been finished. And yet, they produced new decks and fulfilled those first.
  • Hype over some minimalistic design, and flippers with scalpers decide to torture people with crazy aftermarket prices.
  • The shipping rates are very high, yet becomes a factor of why some people are hesitant of purchasing the decks from A1WW.
  • No shipping to UK due to the Brexit event, and the problem hasn't been resolved yet (?)
  • The sales of the decks start to lose interests, as there are a few editions that hasn't sold out since it's initial releases
  • Some of the latest releases are basically reprints of previous editions, thus making this list sort off inaccurate - listed decks might not be in the correct order according to releases.
  • A1WW currently have established Color Archive sales, a shop window featuring older editions of Anyone based on designated colors: i.e. Red Archive = any decks featuring red color like Souvenir Japan and Velvet Red CAP; Black Archive = DnD Mirror, Black CAP Logo. The latest window, the Green Archive, suddenly showed up new releases. These windows are quite complicated, as you will need a password to get in and buy the decks. This is not beneficial for people who got the password late or having bad connections. They think that when they sent out the access, EVERYONE will have it at once - but that is not the case. Connections and servers are the factors of how fast someone received something.
  • The recent series of "Hand-Made" Playing Cards - the cards are that off USPCC printed deck, yet with a blank back. The idea is to create the back design by hand and/or gilding the cards by hand. This deck comes with a bespoke leather case with a zipper - sold flat at $275. This raises the question whether A1WW is trying to be like other high-end luxury fashion brand. Also, people questioned whether the back design or the card edges will still be fine after use.

NOTE:
Decks assigned color codes for the patterns they use.
  • Checks
  • OG Logo ["anyone" with small letters, double way]
  • Souvenir [country flags]
  • Dot
  • CAP Logo ["ANYONE" with capital letters, one way]
  • 6006 [four shapes of dissected eggs/sushi]
  • Houndstooth
  • ANYONE [large '6006' logo, one way, slightly curved borders]
  • Hand-Made [blank backs with hand-made pattern/gilding]
  • Ready-Made [replica of the Hand-Made decks, printed in China]
Double Starred entries shows the collaboration decks
