At least I am not a suspect. If it had gotten “lost” between the Houston docks and Dallas, maybe. Not between France and Belgium. PipChick may need to account for herself though during the time frame when those decks went “missing”.

rousselle wrote:Lorenzo, your "shopify" site says that the Cartomancer decks are coming back in stock. Does that mean another print run, or you have stock remaining that you are sending to the fulfillment center? If you're doing another run, any chance you could have some more uncuts done at the same time?

I haven't picked up any uncuts in a very long time, and I've decided I really want the House of the Rising Spades uncut, preferably both Cartomancer & Faro. If Cartomancer is never coming back, I'll order the Faro one now.

Thanks!
Rouselle - if you are unable to find a Cartomancer uncut, I have two and would be happy to sell it to you at cost but the copy I have is slightly bent on one side (although not torn) and, if pressed, should look fine (particularly if stuck inside a display case).

Any word on when the reprint and Room17 will be available for sale? Not sure if Lorenzo has said anything but I want to stay on top of it.

His instagram is besides Patreon and eMail-newsletter the best source of info. I don't follow him that active anymore, but If I remember correctly he said that it'll be available soon, with the restock of the standard Cartomancer variant.

In his recent Patron backer post, Lorenzo stated that the Room17 decks are on their way now to Gambler's Warehouse. He still needs to work on a contest he is doing as part of the deck's release. What he said was that they should be available for purchase in two weeks or less. He did post a photo and the deck and tuck look sweet.

What a tease, Brad. You didn't even post any photos! ;) Here's the 1st draft. Lorenzo already has changes in mind to be made.

1. No index letters JQKCA because the names are written on the bottom. Number cards have their roman numerals on the sides.
2. Since I am not using "C", the chevalier becomes knight, which sounds better.
3. Knight position moved next to the jack, just followed a hierarchical logic.
4. 2 of hearts will have a different layout on the bottom part. To be designed

I'm fine with it, since I'm not the gilding and foil guy. But this deck! This is actually one of the decks were gilding makes 100% sense and adds to the overall design. I'm more than happy that Lorenzo decided to go full circle with this one!

On an unrelated note, is somebody interested in an opened but almost untouched House of the Rising Spades Cartomancer?
No, seriously, if you want it shoot me a dm.

Interesting news regarding Lorenzo's deck. Nice to see that more and more creators are open to reprints. Kudos.

True, but it is also the death of folks buying tons of decks. It no longer makes any sense if they can be purchased later at anytime.

That said, I love the deck. Heck that is why I have 50 or so of them. Will I still back Lorenzo’s stuff? Sure. Will I still be a top tier Patreon backer, sure. Will I buy 3 bricks in a Kickstarter? No. Lorenzo has been great to interact with, and I think he is an awesome person and deck artist. He is the reason I collect playing cards. If he moves forward with reprinting these, my incredibly high opinion of Lorenzo is unchanged. I have nothing but high praise and admiration for Lorenzo.

I do think that in general creators reprinting popular decks will change the hobby. I am not sure if it is for the better or worse. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t like getting raked over the coals buying decks on the secondary market anymore than anyone else. I also am all for expanding the hobby.

I have no problem as long as it is differentiated from the first printing in some way, whether it be a v2, or whatever they want to call it. It usually makes the v1 value go up, and that's fine with me, as my collection will be going to my kids one day, so the more value it has the better. Also, it gives a chance to those who missed out on the deck to get it at a retail, not secondary price. Makes sense to me. What I don't like is if it is just re-released and there is no way of knowing if you got an early run or a current run. T11 collectors know they make it difficult to tell versions apart. Just look at the different versions of their decks, most don't even know they exist. Monarchs are one for example, and I am not talking about the different colors. The Original Blue (Black?) Monarchs have many subtle variations for example and it drives me nuts.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

I like your thoughts on this James001a. I have been having similar thoughts as well. I had no issue with reusing the slightly modified art in the Keymaster Tarot. I had no issue with the gilded version using the large print overruns. I didn't buy many of the Faro decks because I didn't think they were as good and not likely to be in major demand, which was why I paid a premium to get more Cartomancer decks. How many Cartomancer decks do I own? If I include the ones in my Gatekeeper bundles and my Room17 varients, it is 51.

I will also try to give a bit more perspective. If it had been stated up front in the Kickstarter that these decks would be reprinted later if they turned out a success, how many people would have backed in the same way? Be honest.

Back to James001a's point. If they are reprinted, I would dislike it less the more different the reprints were to the original Kickstarter issued decks. I would suggest at least a different tuck, perhaps new art, or without hot foil or embossing. I don't know.

Also, I am open to those who have different opinions to mine.

There is no inherent value in playing cards - besides their value as objects of joy for gameplay and tiny art displays. Folks should get over this illusion, or live with all the consequences that may come with it. Sorry, not sorry for being blunt.

Reprints have the ability to change the market. Only for the better though. A healthy, not inflated market never hurt nobody.

If somebody doesn't like reprints maybe tulip bulbs might be a better investment...

Hi all!
On instagram I wrote that I am INVESTIGATING the possibility of a reprint.

I am investigating the possibility because I have tons of requests for Cartomancer only, not the rest (Faro, brick boxes, uncut sheets, etc).
I didn't even ask the quote to Cartamundi, because I know it already from 2 years ago and for low numbers (around 1000) it is very costly. I'd add a +5% extra costs for the 2 years of inflation.
Also, they trash the plates of the cards after every project, so a reprint is like a new deck.
The B9 paper stock is discontinued, so the box would be too big for the B9slim. It means new plates for the tuckboxes (this is part of the investigation).
This is what I am investigating: maybe a less detailed version with a standard tuckbox, maybe not. In any case - IF I decide to reprint the deck - it will be different.
For now it is just an idea.

This - the investigation - happens to all the unnumbered decks (except Requiem, I stated one-run for that).
Ho many decks did I reprint so far exactly as seen on Kickstarter with all the perks and the gifts? ZERO. :)

When it comes to reprints there isn't an answer that would make everyone happy. People who missed out will always want more while people that supported the campaign or overpayed in the after market will probably think it's unfair. I guess it would be hard to find a balance that would suit everyone without actually changing the deck. Even then someone is bound to be rattled.

I also get that some people only like decks because they are rare and they have got something others can't have. There is also some people I guess that enjoy chasing such decks down. Without this their enjoyment would be lessened or even their reason for collecting taken away. We all collect for different reasons.

With all that said though. Personally I would be in for designers reprinting because:
  • It's their living and they should be able to make as much money as they can out of something they have designed.
  • I would like my friends to get the chance to buy decks they have missed
  • No quick profit for resellers might stabilise the market, it has kind of got crazy
I would like to mention I have spent ridiculous amounts on the aftermarket for certain decks. I even wouldn't care if they were reprinted. I love collecting cards.

As I say though, your never make everyone happy. Also I hate to agree with Harvonsgard  but he is right. Also resellers, if you bought chunks to sell later, then that's just the game. I think this bubble will burst at some point anyway, remember all those people that thought beanie babies were a great investment??

As a subnote, I do agree that KS supporters should be rewarded. I think that reprints should cost more. I mean Bradius how would you feel if the reprints were $40?

Feels weird how one single post can escalate to this level of controversy. Someone's definitely taking it too seriously (or too trolly) to create a controversy.

I love the idea of allowing reprints as I agree the secondary market has spiraled out of control. I think the reprint should be offered at a slight premium to the original release but I wouldn't care if it was the same version or a tweak. I have family and friends who would absolutely love to own several decks I own after seeing my collection. However, they see the secondary price and lose interest. Reprints directly from the designer at reasonable prices could be the motivation they need to achieve a healthy level of addiction.

Long story short: reprints could lead to new collectors and new joy. Do it.
