1000% agreement. Uncut a must-add. If I'd any friends I'd be pimping this all over social sites, 'cause it sorely needs to fund!

Our first few hours since launch have been great. We sincerely thank you all, for your support!
We added a $1 Thank You tier. You can use that tier for an 'add-on only' pledge.
Note: The built-in 'Make pledge without a reward'' tier provided by KS, doesn't allow for reward surveys.
Honestly, we never considered that... We're glad you like the art!vasta41 wrote:For the first time ever I debated buying the uncut instead of the deck. But also, as is my luck, for the first time ever there is no reward tier for an uncut. I guess it was meant to be! Hahaha

This is a beautiful Hanafuda that I would love to have in my collection. Finances are tight though so have to think on it a while.

How dare you question the great Pheo-cock!.dazzleguts wrote:One question: why make the powerful Pheonix into a peacock?
“There are many interpretations of the phoenix. It took me some time to decide on the final design for the phoenix card. I wanted something simple yet elegant, regal. Yes, typical hanafuda images of the pheonix have just a looming head and wings, (and often look a little angry if I say so myself) but I wanted something contained in the card. I researched many images of both mythical (Suzaku, Hoo, Pheonix) and real (hoatzins, golden pheasants, roosters, and peacocks) birds. So, no, he is not a peacock per se, but he was inspired by them in some part. (^_^) “ — Antonietta
BTW: have you seen a flying white peacock? Rather impressive and mythical looking. (google link)

I don’t even know the reference, but that poster makes me chuckle every time I check the forum for new posts.

We frequently back Kickstarter projects and totally understand the need to watch your budget. Either way you decide, we’re happy to hear you like the project.
We are currently planning to use Gambler’s Warehouse for all of our fulfillment, but a few backers have asked about EU friendly fulfillment and I’d like to accommodate if I can. Does anyone know of any good EU friendly fulfillment options for playing cards?

Lol, thx. May have to take a peek at that show if I can find it.

It has a pretty decent imdb rating as well, I’ll have to check it out. Thx.
Hanami hit the 33% mark over the weekend! And, Kardify asked us to do a Q&A!

dazzleguts wrote:Yeah, especially with the shipping eh?
Yeah, this is getting ridiculous. I'm on my way out of collecting and the Eva and this pricing aren't helping change my mind. This shipping is way too much, on top of that for a deck that is overdone (gilding & gold foil). The deck cost is fair for the extra features, but it would have been nice to have a plain version for $10+shipping (even at $5). For the creator's sake I hope this funds, but if it doesn't I would look at lowering shipping costs and consider a lower end version. Sticker shock is real too so even raising the price of the deck by $5 and saying free US shipping and a much lower cost elsewhere let's people focus on just the deck and determine if that cost is worth it, or just shift $2-3 from shipping to deck cost. At least adding a 2nd deck doesn't double the cost and makes buying the pair or more a little more appealing.
The rule book seems overpriced as well at first glance, but really it's a massive book with 31 games and 250 pages so it's actually very reasonable for a low volume book. I just wish the digital version was $10-15, I mean for $5 more you can have the printed version. I can't imagine anybody taking the digital option, but maybe that's the point?
I'm on the fence for now and may get the Hanafuda version, if I do I may add the Fusion one since shipping won't add much.
Those uncuts though... I'm out of wall space, but now those are pretty tempting so I'll have to see if there's a way...

Lol, we’re building up a movie queue for after the project .
@ecNate
Thanks for the thoughtful critique!
We totally understand where you’re coming from (as backers and creators).
We asked ourselves these same questions while preparing for the project.
We considered making the special features into stretch goals, but we decided that we would rather offer the complete project that we envisioned upfront without stretch goals or gimmicks.
We also considered a larger print run to reduce the printings costs, but with two decks it is difficult to aim for a larger print run as this raises the funding goal. Higher funding goals also seem to dissuade potential backers. Especially, because we aren’t well known (yet ).
Small print runs and special features increase production prices significantly. We set our pledges, add-ons, and goal as low as we could safely manage, and have invested a significant amount of our own money (and time) into this project.
The balancing point in the ‘lower cost with shipping’ and ‘higher cost with free shipping’ debate varies quite a bit from person to person. We chose to keep the numbers clean and separate. As you mentioned, we included quantity discounts and when you consider the shipping, the value becomes even better. We are also using a reliable shipping partner (Gambler’s Warehouse) that will handle the decks with proper care.
We also set the printed book pricing as low as possible. As you mentioned, it is expensive to print a book of this size (especially in color) at this low of a quantity. We are not aware of any alternative books aside from one that was published in 1979 which only contains 3 games and costs $18-$20 on Amazon. So, we feel that our book is also a great value for the content.
We are always open to feedback, and will evaluate all of these factors again with our next project. Going with a larger print run (and fewer features) for lower prices, definitely seems like a good idea to explore.
And, we are searching for wall space for the uncuts as well.
Thanks again,
Jason & Antonietta

Thank you Bruno! We agree completely.
The survey we sent out to our backers has generated a lot of great info and suggestions we can use to improve the project moving forward.
Once we receive the info we need from our printers we will post an update discussing our plans for relaunch.
In the meantime, we’d love to hear from the crowd here on UC as well.
Thanks,
Jason
