BICYCLE BUNGALOU

Unread post by dnwheeler »

There is a deck in the PCDB called BICYCLE BUNGALOU. This is obviously not the correct name (I'm not sure what the correct names is), but there are also two variations of this deck. The model number is 1128 for both, and they both have the same back (matching the scan in the PCDB). The difference is in the faces, where one deck has black numbers/pips on a silver background and the other has silver numbers/pips on a white background.

There is another deck (model 2128) that has the same face as the second one (silver on white), but the back is silver & black on white. I don't know if there is another 2128 that has the black on silver face (it seems like there should be, but I have never seen one).

The combinations look like this:

1128: black/white on silver back, silver on white face
1128: black/white on silver back, black on silver face
2128: black/silver on white back, silver on white face
???: black/silver on white back, black on silver face

Most of the people selling these decks don't provide enough information to figure out which ones they are selling.

Fashion Decks

Unread post by dnwheeler »

There seems to be some confusion over the Fashion decks. I have 6 decks that I initially considered Fashion decks: Pink, Green, Blue, Aqua, Lavender, and Purple. These all have reversed color faces (i.e. white on a solid colored background).

However, after looking closely, it isn't clear that the pink deck is really part of the set since it has a different Bicycle logo (look at the middle line on the E), has its own barcode and model number (POKER 808-R-PNK), and the company name on the side of the box is different.

It also isn't clear that the purple deck is part of the set—it doesn't really share the same color concept (a light and dark shade of the same color) and the bottom the tuck is also blank, unlike the others.

Beyond those 6, there are a couple other decks that may or may not be part of the set.

First is Berry: I don't believe this is a Fashion deck for a few reasons: the card faces don't have reversed colors, the card backs don't have a dark border around a pastel rider back, the tuck has the Bicycle name in white on a colored background (unlike the rest), the company name on the side of the tuck is different (same as Pink deck), the Bicycle logo is different (same as Pink deck), and it has it's own barcode.

Finally, there is another deck that is very similar to Berry sometimes considered part of the Fashion set. It is a Pink and Lavender deck that actually has different background colors for the red and black cards—the red suits are white on pink, and the black suits are white on lavender. The backs are also different, incorporating the Bicycle logo into the rider back design.

To me, it looks like there are really just 4 decks in the series (Lavender, Aqua, Green, and Blue). The cards in the Pink deck fit the theme perfectly, and may have just been sold separately (hence the barcode) at a different time (different logo). The Berry, Purple, and the Pink/Lavender decks all have some factor that clearly excludes them from the series.

I am not a Bicycle cards expert but I do remember buying the deck that is called Bungalov. I bought it several years ago and at the time it was being called "Dirty Rags". There was another one made that had light areas where this one has dark - more of a distressed look than a dirty one - and that is what yours sounds like. Here is an ebay auction for yours:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-New-Aqua-C ... 2eb9c82882

And here is the one I have:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Bicycle-2-D ... 1c259d4d98

I don't remember there being a specific name for the distressed one you have.

After looking at merz67's Ebay listings and the Playing Card Wiki, it appears that the two decks are variations of a deck called "Faded" (commonly referred to as "Faded" and "Faded (Dirty)"). Apparently, these were produced for Vincenzo Di Fatta, although their company name does not appear on the bottom of the tuck as it does on their other decks.

I have ordered two of the dirty variation from merz67, so I'll be able to compare them.

Yes, I actualy have it in my purchase book in 2010 as "Faded". So Dirty Rags was the common name or nickname.

Hi, there are a lot of duplications to be excluded. Please put your attention at the 'Edits needed' thread. I've improved a few of them, but the rest to be discussed, I suppose. My knowledges are not enough to choose - which of duplicated items should be deleted.

I suppose it's not a bad idea to add Vincenzo di Fatta to the brands list. There are a lot of decks developed and produced for him in existence. His Bicycle colored serie consist of 9 decks, and there are some other trick decks. What do you think?

A brand needs to be visible really - if the only way you can know its a Vincenzo Di Fatta deck is just by knowing then it's not a brand. We can add him to the producer list though definitley.

Right now, we're conflating the terms "brand" and "producer", when they should really be different. Using the Vincenzo di Fatta colored decks as an example:

Brand: Bicycle
Producer: Vincenzo di Fatta
Manufacturer: USPCC

And, I believe the term "Model" is used to refer to the base deck (e.g., "808 Rider Back" or somesuch).

So, companies like Theory11, Ellusionist, etc. are all producers that use USPCC, EPCC, etc. as a manufacturer. Most manufacturers are also producers of their own designs.

Absolutely.

I like 'Model' too - it's covered by the naming convention at the moment, but if we (rhu) in the future splits that into seperate parts then model and variant would be a good way to go ("name" being a combination of the two that would be displayed for example).

Some names like MPC could qualify as Manufactuer too... (Impressions deck, producer, brand and manufacturer would be MPC!)

It is amazing how many decks you've put up in a relatively short time iDoctor
I'm plugging away at 8 or so decks every one or two days. Have you found any particularly useful shortcuts or programs for getting it done? I've been cropping scans into a single folder and then sizing them in batches, but the program I'm using won't let me adjust the colour and sharpness in batches - just one at a time.

Thank you, guys, for so kind words! :)
Unfortunately I don't have any special scanner or image editor, but a very standard Mac programm only.
I've just got a flu that days.. I've had nothing to do but have had my own cards photobank (collected before).
And I've been absolutely charmed by the PCDB, so have done nothing but uploaded my scans - hence the upload's speed.
I'm glad that could improve PDCB a little bit, it's a really stupendous resource!

Congrats team! We hit the 2,000 deck mark!!! Actually, 2049 at the moment. Well done! https://playingcarddb.com/carddatabase

BTW - how delayed is the statistic count on the front page? It's really far off, being 90 decks behind.

Gratz guys, I think the site is helping a lot of collectors get their collection in front of people in a nice clean, simple format.........kudos all around.

I think as members become more comfortable you'll see the "Trade" and "Wish List" features start to pay off for members in the long run :D

@ecNate
I thought it looked wrong that so many new decks were showing up but the number hadn't gone up that much.

@ Sparkz
I haven't been using the trade and whishlist functions yet, partly because the shipping between different countries is so high now that single deck trades just aren't very feasable. Also, when a deck is entered as a trade is it also still entered as a deck in your collection, or would that be doubling up?

  Apparently our celebration was premature. I looked closer at the database list and some numbers are missing, no doubt because of decks that were (soft) deleted. Duh. So the total seen in the listing isn't accurate since it includes those that are still there, but hidden as 'deleted'. I'm still not sure the total shown on the front page is fully accurate, I know there is at least up to 24 hour delay, maybe more, but either way we actually are not there YET.

I'm ModiTorsen over there, just in case anyone wants to yell at me for something. And sweet job with the over 2K listed, and the DB in general, I'm really digging it. There aren't nearly enough resources on the net for playing card collectors, and I think this has the potential to really help people.
