Very cool posting of the antique hanafuda decks you scored. Love seeing the older styles. Looks like they had heavy use, perhaps even in a gambling house.
How do you know the period? I'm guessing you used the Takashi Ebashi book? I will have to look for an english translation, if one exists.

Re: [JuFiN] My collection.
Modiano started using the back I have in the 1970s, according to WOPC, so they may have stopped using it by now. 2-way backs are always preferred for playing. http://www.wopc.co.uk/italy/venetian Since I can't read the italian directions I looked up Briscola on Board Game Geek. They have intructions...

Great posting!
I have most of a deck of Modiano Briscola cards I found in a thrift store and this is the back.
Do any of your decks have the same back as mine?

Sounds like it was a portrait, or copycat, of Carmen Miranda. Is there any chance that was the card back instead of the queen? There are tons of tattoos of Mz. Miranda. https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=84AqW4y5JuOt0PEPncmJ6Ac&q=carmen+miranda+tattoo&oq=carmen+m...

I think Ohishi may indeed be the oldest card manufacturer still remaining.
Carta Mundi - Brepols - was my first thought, but, as you pointed out, they did not make playing cards until some 30 years after their founding.

Hi! It's not really a new deck (although I just added the Icons Imperial recently thanks to Rappy!), I am very excited about this: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170715/a79310e24ff8a492ed7a7c7227288bd9.jpg Solid mahogany box with lid, made to measure by Lorenzo's friend in Sweden, all thanks to...

Re: Wow this collection has grown...
Decks are best stored flat so the cards lay flat in their tucks and are less likely to bow, so the postition is fine. The danger of stacking so many is in any weak point of a tuck box buckling under the weight. Especially if the pile is shifted and the corner weight from the tucks above puts pressur...

I'm with you on space issues, and that use of vertical space is great. These shelves show up second hand a lot and much easier for me to get than the PAX since I don't live near an Ikea.
Thanks for posting that dissident.

I agree with the joe - great find in that Black Cat transformation deck.
Arienti's decks are always done up beautifully. Was there a box or other wrapping?

This is late but I really just saw these last 2 postings. Cool that you have the Duff Beer can. How does the deck sit in that? Is there a structure to the inside that holds it in place? Welcome Danny.
I don't participate in social media, outside of a couple of specific forums, so can't follow you, but I totally get the fascination. I sold some decks to a local magician and he did some tricks for me. It's very cool when you see it close up like that and it still seems magic.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
My Casino Regina deck came in a plain Gemaco box instead of a casino box, and it was unused. I had a second one that I sold so they don't seem too rare. Both were thrift store finds here in Canada. They have an interesting almost pebbled surface that glides very well. From what I remember when I fir...

Re: [Chuqii] KEM collection and more (now with antiques)
I would love to see the Discus cards Chuqii. There were some good backs for those, and they make a nice spread with all those repeating suit signs around the edges of the faces. I wonder, is it possible to fan round cards? Some interesting boxes there. I've bought some decks based on the boxes, only...

Don't know if those courts were used outside of that deck, but the ones you have have a much higher quality of printing then some of the Hart's French Whist decks that have turned up. The World Wide Playing Card Museum has the same courts for that deck, but printed poorly. The better printing seems ...
